California Five Star DSS Brandy
Beverage Recipes
Brandy Old Fashioned
1 sugar cube
Several dashes angostura bitters
Soda water
1 (1/2 inch thick) orange slice
2 to 3 maraschino cherries
Ice
2 oz. California Five Star
Place the sugar cube in an Old-Fashioned glass and splash it with the bitters.
Add a dash of soda water (just enough to dissolve the sugar).
Add the orange slice and one cherry.
Gently muddle to crush the fruit but not pulverize it.
Fill the glass with ice cubes and add the California Five Star.
Top off with soda.
Garnish with another cherry or two.
Bombay Punch
3 oz. maraschino syrup or grenadine
3 oz. apricot liqueur
3 oz. Curacao or Cointreau
2 cups sherry
2 cups CALIFORNIA FIVE STAR DSS BRANDY or Guild Brandy
1 liter soda water
1 liter ginger ale, or ½ liter ginger ale plus ½ liter champagne
Pour all ingredients except fizzies into a punch bowl with a large block of ice. Add fizzies just before serving. Garnish with slices of fresh fruit and sprigs of sugared mint.
Rum Punch
6 lemons, juiced and grated
6 oz. sugar
2 tsp. ground ginger
1 bottle (750 ml) SAN JUAN GOLD
1 bottle (750 ml) CALIFORNIA FIVE STAR DSS BRANDY or Guild Brandy
1 cup sherry
1½ quarts boiling water
Mix and muddle lemon juice and gratings, sugar and ginger. Let stand for at least one hour. Place in a large bowl and add enough hot water to cover. Stir thoroughly and add liquors and balance of hot water.
Makes 12 5-ounce servings
Red Velvet Punch
8 cups cranberry juice
1 cup fresh cranberries
2 cups CALIFORNIA FIVE STAR DSS BRANDY (or Guild Brandy)
2 bottles (750 ml each) champagne
6 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate
6 oz. frozen pineapple juice concentrate
6 oz. frozen lemon juice concentrate
Freeze 2 cups of cranberry juice into a block with fresh cranberries. Allow frozen juices to thaw. Mix all ingredients except champagne in punch bowl over cranberry ice. Add champagne just before serving. Garnish with fruit slices.
Makes 24 5-ounce servings
Sangria
1 bottle (750 ml) full-bodied red wine
2 oz. CALIFORNIA FIVE STAR DSS BRANDY (or Guild Brandy)
2 oz. simple syrup
Sliced oranges and lemons
1 cup soda water
Stir ingredients in a pitcher with ice cubes made from red wine and/or orange juice. Add soda water just before serving. For additional sweetness, substitute ginger ale or lemon/lime soda for soda water.
Makes 8-10 servings
